In the past decade there has been large progress in understanding supersymmetry breaking mediation in the supersymmetric standard model. New and old mechanisms, such as gauge mediation, gaugino mediation and anomaly mediation have been studied. We discuss these mediation mechanisms from the point of view of string theory. While some of the mechanisms have natural string theory embedding, for others there appear to be obstructions.
