We present new developments in constructions of string vacua with intersecting D-branes with the emphasis on new Grand Unified Models and the calculation of couplings there. We also report on the calculation of Yukawa couplings and a non-perturbative superpotential (due to worldsheet/membranes instantons) for of the only globally consistent heterotic model with the spectrum of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model.
