The eleven dimensional supermembrane will be discussed from the perspective of superembedding. After reviewing the derivation of the the equations that govern the supermembrane dynamics and the induced superconformal geometry on the worldvolume, gauged superembedding for a target space with U(1) isometry will be discussed. It will be shown that this is equivalent to the standard D2-brane in a Type II supergravity background. In particular, it will be shown that the D2-brane action, complete with the Dirac-Born-Infeld term, arises from the gauged Wess-Zumino worldvolume super 4-form via the brane action principle.
